Government of Canada Kicks Off National Public Service Week

The Government of Canada is committed to restoring a culture of respect for and within the federal public service.

Canada is fortunate to have one of the best, most professional and dedicated public services in the world. Along with the vital programs and services they deliver every day, public servants innovate to meet emerging priorities and respond to emergencies. This year public servants answered the call to help their fellow citizens displaced by the Fort McMurray wildfires and have worked tirelessly to welcome tens of thousands of Syrian refugees into Canadian society.

National Public Service Week, celebrated annually the third week of June, recognizes the accomplishments of federal public service employees and promotes the values of public service. Departments and agencies are organizing special events throughout the week to mark the occasion across Canada.

The motto of National Public Service Week is "Proudly Serving Canadians." It is a time for all Canadians to take pride in the contribution of federal public service employees and the difference they make in Canadians' lives every day.

• The Public Service of Canada is the country's largest employer. Over 257,000 public service employees work across the country and around the world, delivering services to Canadians.
• Parliament enacted National Public Service Week in 1992 to promote pride in, and recognition of, the Public Service of Canada.
