Government of Canada Launches 2010 Winter Games Weather Website

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2010) - The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of the Environment, today announced the launch of www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/2010, Environment Canada's 2010 Winter Games weather website.

"We are as prepared as we could ever be for what Mother Nature has planned for the 2010 Winter Games. Our equipment is in place, our forecasters are trained, and now the public and media have a website they can visit for information about Winter Games weather", said Minister Prentice

www.Weatheroffice.gc.ca/2010 features the latest weather observations, forecasts and historical weather data for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games venues and surrounding region. The website includes "Street Level Forecasts," a unique pilot project which provides Canadians with personal, unofficial forecasts for any specific location in the Olympic region.

Media registering through www.media.weatheroffice.gc.ca have access to special features during the 2010 Winter Games. These features include a daily weather webcast and access to videos that answer frequently asked questions about the weather in south-western British Columbia during Games time.

Links from the www.weatheroffice.gc.ca provide information about Environment Canada's official role as weather services provider to the 2010 Winter Games.
