Government of Canada Proud to Support Le Mois de la Photo à Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 31, 2005) - Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $40,000 in funding for the ninth edition of the Mois de la Photo a Montreal, to be held from September 8 to October 10, 2005.

"I am proud to support this international cultural event," said Minister Frulla. "I would like to congratulate the organizers and volunteers whose hard work and professionalism have made Le Mois de la Photo a Montreal a hub of the Canadian and international contemporary photography scene."

Under the theme "Image and Imagination," this year's Mois de la Photo a Montreal will expose the public to the quality and artistry of Canadian and foreign photography. More than 25 free exhibitions will be presented throughout the city, in cultural centres, artists' centres, exhibition halls, art galleries, and museums.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. The program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.

Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
