Government of Canada Renews Financial Support to Tourisme Chaudiere-Appalaches

SAINT-NICOLAS, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 28, 2012) - Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière, today announced the renewal of the Agency's funding agreement with Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches. This financial assistance will support the tourism organization's promotional activities outside Quebec for the period up to March 31, 2015.

"By supporting the renewal of this funding agreement with Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches, the Government of Canada is showing its commitment to fostering the growth of tourism, a profitable sector for the economy," said Mr. Gourde.

The contribution will enable the organization to implement a strategy to promote the region's distinctive tourist attractions, notably the Grosse-Île National Historic Site and the tourism offering for snowmobile enthusiasts, in an effort to draw a greater number of visitors to the area from out-of-province and international markets. The funds will give the organization the means to, for example, take part in foreign tourism shows and fairs, conduct promotional campaigns or organize media tours.

The three-year agreement is in line with Canada's recent National Tourism Strategy, an initiative aimed at positioning the country as a premium tourist destination.

This funding, granted in the form of a $499,800 non-repayable contribution, has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program.
