Government of Canada Supports Canadian Renderers Association

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 11, 2011) - The Government of Canada is investing more than $130,000 in the Canadian Renderers Association (CRA) to enhance its competitiveness in global markets, announced Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.

"Canada's rendering industry generates valuable protein meals, fats, and oils for export," said Minister Ritz. "This investment will allow the industry to enhance its competitiveness in global markets by removing technical barriers to trade, maintaining visibility in closed markets, and receiving the highest value possible for exported products."

The CRA represents the interests of three major rendering companies that provide services to all regions of Canada. This investment will allow CRA to attend trade shows, participate in overseas missions, host incoming missions, and give presentations and seminars to potential buyers.

"The Canadian rendering industry has been working hard to re-establish export markets that were closed to Canadian products after the BSE crisis in 2003," said Kevin Golding, President of the CRA. "The AgriMarketing Program funding has helped support our marketing efforts and is greatly appreciated by our member companies."

This federal investment is provided through the $88 million AgriMarketing program, under Growing Forward, which helps industry associations implement long-term international strategies which include activities such as international market development, consumer awareness and branding and industry-to-industry trade advocacy.
