Government of Canada Supports Five Projects in Iles-de-la-Madeleine


CAP-AUX-MEULES, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 20, 2014) - Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that five projects in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine region have been granted financial assistance to carry out projects that will contribute to the growth of the tourism industry and the creation of jobs.

This support, which totals $1,857,643, has been awarded in the form of three non-repayable contributions through Canada Economic Development's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) and two repayable contributions through its Quebec Economic Development Program.

Financial support granted through Canada Economic Development's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF)

Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert Non-repayable contribution of $515,028 on a total investment of $1,030,085

The mandate of the Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert is to provide the Îles-de-la-Madeleine community with boat space rental services as well as a boat launching ramp.

Agency funding will go toward enlarging and improving an existing public recreational facility. This first phase is part of a long-term plan to expand and modernize the port facilities of the Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert, by adding dock spaces to accommodate new recreational boaters and small boat owners.

The work will allow local entrepreneurs to participate in the bidding process and purchase needed materials from local providers. It will also more adequately meet the needs of boaters.
Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert Non-repayable contribution of $500,000 on a total investment of $1,006,900

The mandate of the Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert is to provide the Îles-de-la-Madeleine community with boat space rental services as well as a boat launching ramp.

This second and final phase is part of a long-term plan to expand and modernize the port facilities of the Corporation de développement portuaire de la Baie du Cap-Vert. Expansion of the facilities will add a total of 45 new dock spaces for boaters as well as the vessels of a mariculture business and lobster fishermen.

The project will allow local entrepreneurs to participate in the bidding process and purchase needed materials from local providers, while better meeting the needs of boaters.
La Salicorne
Club vacances

Repayable contribution of $186,500 on a total investment of $373,000

Incorporated in 1980, La Salicorne, formerly known as Club vacances "Les Îles", is a non-profit organization dedicated to the discovery of Îles-de-la-Madeleine nature and culture with due respect for its environment and its people, the Madelinots. It plays a major role in the local development of the eastern Islands, Grande-Entrée Island in particular.

CED's assistance will be used to restore and improve La Salicorne's facilities. The project will help facilitate hospitality services for local clients (disabled persons, school clients, families and others), upgrade the premises and ensure safety in the facilities.

This project will make La Salicorne's facilities more suitable for all the people who use them as a community gathering place.

Financial support granted through Canada Economic Development's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP)

Îles-de-la-Madeleine

B.M.B Îles-de-la-Madeleine Inc. Repayable contribution of $491,918 on a total investment of $1,639,725

B.M.B Îles-de-la-Madeleine owns the Château Madelinot and the Auberge Madeli. Together, the two establishments boast 180 rooms, six meeting rooms and an amphitheatre.

The financial support awarded will be used to modernize the Auberge Madeli, a 3-star inn that is open year round.

In addition to protecting the 65 existing jobs, including nine full-time ones, this project will create an additional full-time position.
Restaurant la Boucanerie Inc. Repayable contribution of $164,197 on a total investment of $475,134

Restaurant la Boucanerie, now known as Auberge chez Denis à François, is a 10-room, three-star establishment with a restaurant seating 24 people.

Funding from the Agency will be used to expand the Auberge Chez Denis à François by increasing its lodging capacity and improving its existing rooms.
