Government of Canada Supports Francophone Communities in Southern Ontario

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 13, 2010) - Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Orleans, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), today announced that FedDev Ontario is accepting applications under the Economic Development Initiative in southern Ontario.

"Our government is investing in Francophone communities in Ontario to generate new business opportunities," said MP Galipeau. "This investment will help create jobs and economic growth in southern and eastern Ontario."

FedDev Ontario is providing up to $4 million until 2013 to promote the development of new expertise through innovation, diversification of economic activities, partnerships, and increased support of small- and medium-sized businesses in southern Ontario Francophone communities.

Funding is available for projects that support community strategic planning, as well as business and economic development, including youth internships. Activities must benefit Francophone communities in southern Ontario.

The Economic Development Initiative is part of the "Roadmap for Canada's Linguistic Duality 2008-2013: Acting for the Future," the Government of Canada's strategy for official languages.

FedDev Ontario was created as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan to support businesses and communities in southern Ontario. Now in its second year of operation, the Agency has launched a number of initiatives to create a Southern Ontario Advantage and place the region in a strong position to compete in the global economy. These initiatives are designed to support businesses and other organizations through partnerships and investments in skills and training; innovation; research and development; and increased productivity.
