Government of Canada Supports Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapedia

Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapedia, a six-stage cycling race taking place August 5 to 9, 2015, in the Matapédia Valley

AMQUI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 16, 2015) - Canada Economic Development (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapédia has been granted funding to support its commercialization strategy on markets outside Quebec.

This assistance has been awarded in the form of a $24,300 non-repayable contribution through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program.

Quick facts

  • The contribution will enable Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapédia to implement an international commercialization strategy to promote its 2015 edition.
  • Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapédia is the only stage race in Canada in which participants register individually rather than in teams, allowing cyclists who are not part of an official team to compete against top-ranking racers.
  • This high-calibre competition is an exceptional economic lever for the Matapédia region, notably due to the large number of out-of-province participants and many cycling fans it attracts.
  • The commercialization strategy will centre on public relations, advertising and promotional activities for the event, including the production of a Website, promotional materials and Web and television capsules, media placement and the hosting of foreign journalists.

Quote

"By supporting the promotion of Grand Prix cycliste de La Matapédia on markets outside Quebec, our government is contributing to the economic diversification of the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie regions, to the growth of the tourism industry and to job creation."

Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
