Government of Canada Supports Growth of Gatineau Firm Ramius Corporation

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 12, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announces the awarding of $250,000 in repayable funding to Ramius Corporation.

"The Government of Canada is putting ongoing effort into helping small and medium-sized enterprises that invest in research and development increase their innovative capabilities and expand into foreign markets," explained Minister Lebel.

Ramius Corporation, a software manufacturer since 1998, designs and develops social network platforms for enterprises, non-profit organizations and government organizations. Its latest creation, Sixent, offers the familiar enterprise social networking environment while respecting the information sharing objectives of an intranet network.

Ramius Corporation, which has set itself the goal of breaking into international markets, in particular the United States and Europe, will use this government funding to implement its commercialization strategy. Activities include participation in specialized trade fairs, targeted meetings with potential clients and the production of promotional material.

"Ramius Corporation is one of our innovative enterprises that knows how to capitalize on the results of its research and development in order to develop and market value-added products," the Minister added.

High technology is a promising growth sector for the Outaouais region, as are agri-food processing, tourism and the transformation of wood into value-added products. By concentrating its development efforts in these sectors, Canada Economic Development is helping to support the region's economy.

The contribution from Canada Economic Development has been awarded through the Business and Regional Growth program.
