Government of Canada Supports Growth of Musee du Fjord

SAGUENAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 24, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, took the opportunity of today's inauguration of Aquarium du Fjord, Musée du Fjord's new permanent exhibit, to note that the Government of Canada granted $1,800,600 in non-repayable funding to the museum for its strategic repositioning project.

"The Saguenay fjord is a treasure of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. The Government of Canada opted to lend its support to this Musée du Fjord project because of its role in showcasing and allowing people to learn about this undeniable regional attraction," said Minister Lebel.

Funded through the Support Initiative for International Cruise Development Along the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers, a measure provided for under Canada's Economic Action Plan adopted in January 2009, the museum's project involved, among other things, developing a 3-D multimedia presentation and two permanent science exhibits using state-of-the-art museographical techniques.

Musée du Fjord's cultural products contribute to diversifying the tourism offering and extending the tourist season in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. These latest additions may also play a key part in the development of the cruise ship port of call in Saguenay by providing passengers with an unforgettable museum experience. This project will help promote Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean as an exceptional tourist destination on both domestic and foreign markets.
