Government of Canada Supports Innovation Zone for Brandon University


BRANDON, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - July 30, 2015) - Western Economic Diversification Canada

Today, Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the creation of an Innovation Zone at Brandon University.

Federal funding of $47,000, through the Western Diversification Program (WDP), to Brandon University supports the purchase of 3D printing equipment, including microcomputers and related software, allowing innovators in southwestern Manitoba to produce prototypes locally.

The Innovation Zone will provide support to entrepreneurs, local businesses and students to increase the adoption of new technologies, as well as the development and commercialization of new products.

  • Brandon University has five faculties and three research centres, and has an annual enrollment of 3,700 full-time and part-time students.
  • The Innovation Zone will assist businesses in the construction of prototypes and the training of individuals in the use of computer-aided-design software and 3D printing technology.
