Government of Canada Supports Inter-Cultural Connections Event in Kamloops

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 10, 2011) - Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops—Thompson—Cariboo, today announced $7,099 in funding for the Inter-Cultural Connections Event, to be held on February 15 in Kamloops, BC. Hosted by Kamloops Immigration Services, the event consists of workshop presentations aiming to foster partnerships and encourage connections across diverse cultures.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Citizenship and Immigration Canada, I'm proud to join Minister Jason Kenney in promoting the Inter-Action program and its commitment to supporting activities, such as this one, that strengthen social cohesion," said MP McLeod.

The event is funded under Inter-Action, Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Multiculturalism Grants and Contribution program. Inter-Action is designed to improve intercultural understanding, civic memory and pride, as well as respect for core democratic values.

"Through this funding, the Government is investing in Canada by supporting projects and events that promote intercultural and equal opportunity for people of all cultures and faith. Canada's future depends on all of us growing together through shared values, history and institutions," said MP McLeod.

The Inter-cultural Connections Event is open to the public and will be held at the Desert Gardens Community Centre located at 540 Seymour Street.
