The Government of Canada is reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting the development of Quebec communities. The new Local Investment Initiative (LII) announced today by the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, will make non-repayable funding available to non-profit organizations and municipalities with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants for the renovation, improvement or expansion of existing community halls.

Quick facts

  • The LII is a one-time Canada Economic Development initiative delivered within the framework of its activities through the Quebec Economic Development Program.
  • This new initiative, with its $6 million budget over two years, will strengthen the local economy in communities across Quebec.
  • Funding will be allocated in the form of a non-repayable financial contribution to projects that meet specific eligibility criteria and are selected through a call for proposals open from May 2 to June 6, 2014.
  • This new initiative will help promote long-term economic development capacity-building in Quebec communities by stimulating local investment while ensuring citizens have access to safer and more functional community halls that are better suited to their needs.
