Government of Canada Supports the 2015 Canada Open

Taekwondo Canada receives Government of Canada funding to host some of the best Taekwondo athletes in the world

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 13, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), announced the Government of Canada has provided $83,400 to Taekwondo Canada through Sport Canada's Hosting Program to support the 2015 Canada Open in Toronto from February 13 to 15, 2015.

Quick Facts

  • Hosting the 2015 Canada Open will provide about 400 Canadian athletes, from Youth to Senior levels, with an international competitive opportunity. In addition, around 300 athletes from 25 countries will compete in this important event a few months before the Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games.
  • For the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the Government of Canada has contributed $625,500 to Taekwondo Canada through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program.
  • In 2014, the Government of Canada provided $54,000 to 3 Taekwondo athletes through Sport Canada's Athlete Assistance Program to assist with their living, training, education and special need support and allow them to focus on their training.
