Government of Canada Supports Tourism Development in Mauricie

SHAWINIGAN, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 10, 2012) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, announces that Cité de l'Énergie Inc. is receiving financial assistance to develop a new blockbuster show for the upcoming summer season.

"In investing in tourism development in Mauricie," stated Minister Lebel, "the Government of Canada is providing proof positive of its firm commitment to the economy and employment in the region."

Since it was founded in 1997, Cité de l'Énergie has become a major tourist attraction, generating substantial economic spinoffs for the Mauricie region. The organization will use the funds provided to design, develop and stage a new cultural production to replace Eclyps, the blockbuster evening show running since summer 2007. Canada Economic Development's financial contribution is earmarked for creation and production costs and the acquisition of technical equipment.

For information:

The $750,000 contribution announced today under Canada Economic Development's Community Diversification program is non-repayable.
