Government of Canada Supports Wireless Technology Industry

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - July 10, 2015) - Western Economic Diversification Canada

Today, Wai Young, Member Parliament for Vancouver South, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $775,000 in funding for the Wavefront Wireless Commercialization Centre Society (Wavefront) to drive economic growth and facilitate foreign investment for wireless small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Western Canada through a Global Expansion Pilot program.

With the help of federal funding, provided through the Western Diversification Program, Wavefront will hire foreign business development experts to assist 15 high-growth and high-potential wireless SMEs in securing their first foreign market customers. To qualify for assistance through the Program, participants must have: fewer than 200 employees; never sold into the target foreign market; a major wireless component to their solution; and the technical readiness level and business acumen to pursue foreign markets.

Each participating SME will have a unique product to sell to its target market, and the role of the foreign business development expert will be customized to the needs of each business and its product.

Quick Facts

  • Wavefront is Canada's centre of excellence for wireless application commercialization, and the recognized North American market entry point for international wireless application companies.
  • The Global Expansion Pilot Program will help increase the capacity of western SMEs in the wireless sector in pursuing international business opportunities.
