Government of Canada Tables Supplementary Estimates (C), 2013-2014

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 13, 2014) - Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

The Government of Canada today tabled the Supplementary Estimates (C), 2013-2014 in the House of Commons.

The Supplementary Estimates (C), 2013-2014 provide information to support the Government's request for Parliament to approve $358.3 million in voted appropriations for 35 organizations. So far this fiscal year, the voted budgetary estimates, including the Main Estimates and Supplementary Estimates (A), (B), and (C), total $94.8 billion.

This year's estimates continue the steady decrease over the last three years in voted appropriations, with this year's total down almost $4 billion from last year.

Quick Facts

  • Supplementary Estimates present information to Parliament on the Government of Canada's spending requirements that were either not sufficiently developed in time to be included in the Main Estimates, or have been refined to account for new developments in programs or services.

  • The Supplementary Estimates (C) voted appropriations include the following items:

    • As announced in EAP 2013, Shared Services Canada requests spending authority up to $102.3 million to cover the cost of purchasing software for the personal workstations of federal employees. The centralized procurement of software through Shared Services Canada will bring efficiencies and savings while strengthening the security of government information technology. This software includes standardized office suite software.

    • Public Works and Government Services Canada presents requirements of $63.8 million to cover non-discretionary expenses associated with providing office space for federal departments and agencies, including rental costs and the cost of preparing office space for occupancy.

    • National Defence requests spending authority up to $34.7 million to support projects that will help extend the life of fourteen CP-140 Aurora long-range patrol aircraft.

    • Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada presents requirements of $33.2 million to cover on-reserve costs incurred by provincial/territorial and other emergency management organizations. These arrangements help ensure that First Nations have access to services comparable to those available to other communities in their province.

Quotes

"This year's estimates show a steady decline over the last three years in the amount of spending our Government has asked Parliament to approve. In fact, this year's voted appropriations are down almost $4 billion from last year, which reflects the success of the cost-cutting exercises our Government has undertaken."
