Government Professionals Rally for a Fair Contract

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 10, 2016) - On the eve of National Public Service Week, members of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) held a rally to call for a fair contract with the federal government.

"The best way for the government to celebrate National Public Service Week is to offer our members a fair contract that makes up for lost time," said PIPSC President Debi Daviau. "The issues we fight for are crucial to all Canadians. We're ready to get results and we won't be pressured into signing a deal that doesn't address our very reasonable priorities."

PIPSC members are ready to get results on:

  • Fair economic increases and the protection of their sick leave;
  • Enshrining scientific integrity in collective agreements so no government gets to muzzle Canada's scientists again;
  • Reigning in costly outsourcing to protect job security and ensure Canadian taxpayers get value for money;
  • Resources to go after international tax avoiders so the government can provide Canadians with the quality services they deserve; and
  • Maintaining and enhancing professional development to ensure excellent delivery of public services to Canadians.

"We're fighting for the right of every Canadian to receive vital public services in an efficient and effective manner," said Daviau. "And we're ready to bargain."

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 55,000 scientists and other professionals across Canada's public sector.
