Government Technology and AT&T Launch Program to Help Government Entities -- "Special Districts" -- Connect, Share and Innovate

Program designed to foster innovation and best practices sharing across more than 38,000 Special Districts nationwide

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - May 09, 2017) - More than 38,000 special-purpose government entities -- referred to as Special Districts -- will be able to more easily share ideas and information with each other thanks to Government Technology and AT&T*.

Special districts are organized local entities created to meet specific community needs by providing one or more specialized services. They are often governed by city councils, county board of supervisors or by a board of directors elected by the voters. The services provided by these districts range from vital community needs such as water and sanitation to essential facilities like roads and mass transit, parks and much more.

Government Technology, a news media platform, and AT&T are launching a new nationwide program to help special districts share information about how they can use technology to cuts costs, operate more efficiently and create more value for citizens. They will stage special "summit" meetings in each of four regions -- the East, West, Southwest and Southeast -- to bring representatives of special districts together to share use cases and technology best practices.

"Through our work with special districts across the country, we know they are constantly innovating and looking for ways to operate more efficiently and effectively," said Rosie Kitson, vice president-Marketing, AT&T Global Public Sector. "This new program gives them a platform to connect, share and learn from each other to improve mission delivery."

A new online site lets special districts register for the regional events, find related content, sign up for "The Districts" monthly newsletter, and even nominate an innovative practice or IT leader to be awarded as part of the program. The site will also serve as a resource for special districts to hear from leaders across the country in podcasts and videos throughout the year.

"This unique program allows special district IT leaders to connect as a group for what may be the first time to share innovative ideas and to learn from each other in a collaborative, supportive manner," said Bob Graves, associate director of the Governing Institute.
