Governments of Canada and Yukon Announce Joint-Funding for Infrastructure Projects

WHITEHORSE, YUKON--(Marketwired - March 18, 2016) - Larry Bagnell, Member of Parliament for Yukon, and Currie Dixon, Minister of Community Services for the Government of Yukon, today announced funding for five projects in communities across the territory under the Government of Canada's Small Communities Fund.

The Government of Canada remains committed to making historic investments in infrastructure to promote good jobs and clean growth in towns and cities across the country.

The funding announced today by Mr. Bagnell, on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Amarjeet Sohi, will support key infrastructure initiatives across Yukon, including upgrades to waste water and drinking water facilities, solid waste systems, and road improvements.

Through the Small Communities Fund, the governments of Canada and Yukon will continue to work in partnership to fund priority public infrastructure that will contribute to stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable communities in the North.

Backgrounder

The governments of Canada and Yukon are announcing funding for five infrastructure projects in communities in the territory under the New Building Canada Fund's Small Communities Fund. The Government of Canada will contribute up to $4,387,500 for the five projects, which have a total eligible cost of $5,850,000.

The Small Communities Fund provides support for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs in communities across Canada that have fewer than 100,000 residents. So far, the vast majority of the projects approved under this Fund are in communities with a population of less than 25,000.
