Governor General Launches Rideau Hall Movie Nights

Watch Great Canadian Films Under the Stars

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 14, 2014) - This summer, in mid-August, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will be the host of the first-ever Rideau Hall Movie Nights, a special event in Ottawa that will include outdoor screenings of Canadian feature films.

"Enjoyed by millions of people here at home and around the world, Canada's vibrant film industry and its many achievements deserve to be celebrated," said the Governor General. "I am pleased to invite you to join me at Rideau Hall this August for a taste of our homegrown talent and a memorable evening among friends."

Rideau Hall Movie Nights will feature acclaimed English and French Canadian films, screened on alternate nights, on the grounds of the official residence of the Governor General. The public will be invited to bring their blankets and settle in to watch these films under the stars. Official dates and film selection will be announced at a later date.

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General and the Canadian film industry have come together for this occasion in a unique partnership to showcase Canadian feature films in the heart of the Nation's Capital. They all share in the commitment to promote Canada's cultural vitality in film.
