Governor General of Canada Welcomes President of the Republic of Peru

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 8, 2014) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston, will welcome His Excellency Ollanta Humala Tasso, President of the Republic of Peru, and his wife, Mrs. Nadine Heredia, to Rideau Hall, on April 9 and 10, 2014, on the occasion of their State visit to Canada.

The visit will commence with an official welcoming ceremony. During their stay at Rideau Hall, President Humala and Mrs. Heredia will meet with the Governor General and Mrs. Johnston, attend a State dinner in their honour, and participate in a ceremonial tree planting.

Wednesday, April 9, 2014
11:30 a.m. - Official welcoming ceremony
An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, will be held at Rideau Hall.
His Excellency Ollanta Humala Tasso will inspect a guard of honour. The Governor General and the President will offer remarks.

10:30 a.m. - Ceremonial tree planting
The President and First Lady of the Republic of Peru will plant a tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate their State visit to Canada. The tree will be an eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), chosen to represent the strong, lasting and growing relationship between Canada and Peru.
