Governor General Presents Canadian Honours to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 26, 2013) - Today, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the insignias of Companion of the Order of Canada and Commander of the Order of Military Merit to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh during a special presentation in Toronto, Ontario.

The Order of Canada citation is as follows:

His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, P.C., K.G., K.T., O.M., G.B.E., O.N.Z., Q.S.O., A.C., G.C.L., C.C., C.M.M., C.D.

Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada

His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, has long embodied dignity, loyalty and service to others. He has known eleven Canadian governors general and eleven prime ministers, and has been present at events which have shaped our nation, including the signing of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. His Royal Highness has a keen interest in the personal development of young people and, through the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, has helped to advance the community engagement and personal achievement of young Canadians. In addition, he has long held close ties with Canada's Armed Forces, which have recognized his service with the unique ranks of honorary admiral and general. Through his many visits to Canada, both on his own and with Her Majesty The Queen, he has shown his lasting concern for our country and for Canadians.
