The Governor General Receives a Warm Welcome From Their Majesties in the Kingdom of Norway

OSLO, KINGDOM OF NORWAY--(Marketwire - April 28, 2009) - Upon arrival in Oslo on the occasion of a State visit to the Kingdom of Norway, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond were welcomed by Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway at the Royal Palace, during a ceremony with military honours.

Their Excellencies spoke with Their Majesties, who will be accompanying them throughout this three-day State visit, which will end in Tromso, the largest north of the Arctic Circle. The Governor General also met with Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway. Among other things, they discussed the values shared by Canada and Norway.

"We have a very deep relationship," said the Governor General. "It is always good for friends to celebrate together, for our people to realise how much we have in common."

The State visit to the Kingdom of Norway runs from April 28 to 30, 2009.
