Governor General to Invest 20 Recipients Into the Order of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 9, 2008) - Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will preside at an investiture ceremony of the Order of Canada at the Citadelle, the official residence of the Governor General in Quebec City, on October 10, 2008, at 10:30 a.m.

The Order of Canada, our country's highest civilian honour, was created in 1967 during Canada's centennial year to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation. More than 5 500 Canadians have been invested into the Order. This ceremony is among the many activities presented by Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of the City of Quebec. A number of events have been held at the Citadelle this year, including the ceremony for the presentation of the Military Valour Decorations in June 2008.

The Governor General, who is Chancellor and Principal Companion of the Order, will bestow the honour on two Companions, six Officers and 12 Members.
