Governor General to Open Order of Canada 40th Anniversary Exhibition

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 6, 2007) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will open an exhibition entitled The Order of Canada: They desire a better country in the main lobby of the Library and Archives building on Wellington Street, in Ottawa, on Thursday June 7, 2007, at 11 a.m.

Their Excellencies and recipients of the Order of Canada will participate in a thematic discussion on civic engagement, mentorship and leadership prior to the opening of the exhibition. The media will have the opportunity to interview the participants after the opening ceremony.

Library and Archives Canada, in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, presents a selection of photographs of recipients of the Order of Canada. Awarded for the first time in 1967, the Order of Canada is the centrepiece of our country's system of honours. 2007 marks 40 years of recognizing outstanding achievements and excellence in all sectors of Canadian society.

This exhibition will be open until May 11, 2008.
