Governor General to Open the Glengarry Highland Games

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 25, 2011) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will officially open the 64th annual Glengarry Highland Games, in the small farming community of Maxville, Ontario, on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. The Governor General will be accompanied by his wife, Her Excellency Sharon Johnston.

Their Excellencies have been invited as the official guests of honour at this year's Highland Games celebrating Scottish heritage and traditions in Canada. The Governor General will deliver a speech on the Highland Games' important contribution to Canada's rich and diverse society, and will offer his best wishes to all participants.

About the Glengarry Highland Games

Each summer, at the end of July, the village of Maxville, Ontario, reunites over 20 000 people of Scottish descent from nearby and around the world to celebrate the annual Glengarry Highland Games. One of the largest Highland gatherings in North America, the annual Highland Games consist of a series of traditional Scottish competitions, including the famous caber toss, Highland dancing and the North American Pipe Band Championship™.
