Governor General to Present Duke of Edinburgh's Awards to 49 Young Canadians

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 19, 2007) - Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will present The Duke of Edinburgh's Young Canadian Challenge Gold Award to 49 young Canadians. The ceremony will take place on April 20, 2007, at Canada Post Corporation's convention centre, 2701 Riverside Drive, at 10:30 a.m.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Young Canadian Challenge was founded by His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, to encourage personal development and community involvement in young people. The program, open to all young Canadians aged 14-25, has Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

As National Chair of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the Governor General will preside over her first Gold Award ceremony.
