Governor General to Visit Beaconsfield and Inaugurate Heroes Park and Cenotaph

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 10, 2014) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will conduct a one-day visit to Beaconsfield, Quebec, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, during which he will meet with the Mayor, visit Beaconsfield High School, and inaugurate the Heroes Park and Cenotaph.

Upon his arrival, the Governor General will meet with His Worship Georges Bourelle, Mayor of Beaconsfield, and with city councillors. Following the meeting, he will sign the city's guest book. 303 Beaconsfield Boulevard, Beaconsfield City Hall.

Visit to Beaconsfield High School

The Governor General will interact with Secondary 4 and 5 students from the Embarkations Alternative Program, which is designed to meet the needs of students who require an alternate pathway to achieve success. He will also meet with Secondary 2 students in the Infinity 1:1 Laptop Program, which offers a digital learning environment in the classroom through the use of laptop computers and the latest software. At 11:05 a.m., His Excellency will proceed to the auditorium, where Secondary 5 students will offer him a warm welcome, present their volunteerism program and outline their involvement in the Heroes Park and Cenotaph initiative. On this occasion, the Governor General will address students on the importance of community spirit and volunteerism, and present an item to put into the time capsule intended for Heroes Park and Cenotaph.

Inauguration Ceremony for Heroes Park and Cenotaph

His Excellency will attend the official inauguration ceremony for Heroes Park and Cenotaph-a permanent symbol honouring the service and sacrifice of all military personnel, police, firefighters, paramedics and first responders in the course of their official duties. The Governor General will participate in the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and address veterans, guests and members of the public gathered on this special occasion.
