Governor General's Women's Conference: "Together for Women's Security"

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 2, 2010) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will host the conference "Together for Women's Security" at Rideau Hall, on September 9 and 10, 2010. The event will gather women and men from all provinces and territories.

Throughout her mandate, the Governor General was determined to break down the wall of indifference by giving a voice to women. Therefore, she made it a priority to meet and engage with women during her visits throughout the country and abroad.

"The struggle for equality is not just a woman's struggle; it is the struggle of every person who demands respect, justice and dignity. I strongly believe that we have everything to gain when we give women the means to change their lives for the better. Empower women and you will see a decrease in poverty, illiteracy, illness and violence," Her Excellency said.

The conference aims to create a space for dialogue to talk about best practices and strategies to ensure women's security. The key theme will be discussed during round tables, a plenary session and informal meetings.

Participants at the conference will come from all regions of Canada and represent Canadian society. All have in common a profound commitment to various fields of intervention and to the work they do for women.

Here is the program of the conference:
