Michigan Association of RVs and Campgrounds (MARVAC) to Celebrate With 'RVs & Campsites at the Capitol' on May 17, 2006

OKEMOS, MI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 10, 2006 -- Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed a proclamation making the week of May 14, 2006, "Recreation Vehicle and Campground Week."

"The governor is a supporter of the RV and campground industry. She has taken part in industry related events in the past as a means to promote tourism in the state," said Bill Sheffer, director of MARVAC. "She has enjoyed the recreation vehicle lifestyle on more than one occasion with her family in northern Michigan. All reports indicated she found the experience to be very pleasant."

In honor of the proclamation, the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC) will celebrate with "RVs and Campsites at the Capitol" on May 17, 2006, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come join MARVAC for a "campground" style lunch of hot dogs, chips, pop and s'mores. While enjoying lunch, tour one of the ten RVs on display along Capitol Avenue.

Governor Granholm's proclamation brings attention to the contributions the RV and camping industry makes toward Michigan's economy and tourism. In 2005, Michigan RV sales totaled 13,973 units and ranked 4th in the number of RV shipments with over 15,000 RVs shipped to Michigan RV dealers. There are over 200,000 registered RVs in Michigan. With over 1,200 licensed campgrounds in the state, there are more than 80,000 campsites for families to visit.

The Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC) is celebrating its 65th anniversary, making it one of Michigan's oldest trade associations. MARVAC is a statewide, non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging growth in the recreation vehicle and private campground industries while contributing to the quality of Michigan tourism.
