GOWEST Appoints Mr. Ewan Mason and Mr. Jeremy Niemi to Board of Directors

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 19, 2009) – The Board of Directors of Gowest Amalgamated Resources Ltd. ("Gowest" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:GWA) would like to announce that Mr. Mark Bradshaw has resigned from the Board of Directors effective June 18, 2009. The Company would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him success in his future endeavours.

The Company is pleased to announce the appointments of Mr. Ewan Mason and Mr. Jeremy Niemi to the Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. Mason is filling a current board vacancy and Mr. Niemi is replacing Mr. Bradshaw.

Mr. Mason was formerly head of mining investment banking at a large Canadian securities firm and has worked in the financial sector for 17 years. Prior to this, Mr. Mason was employed as a geologist with a number of Canadian and international mining companies. Mr. Mason holds a BSc. Honours degree in Geology from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Mr. Niemi is currently Manager, Technical Services, for Kinross Gold Corporation, in the Toronto Corporate Office. Mr. Niemi is a geologist with more than 13 years experience in the mining/resource industry, both at corporate and operational level. His work spans the gold and base metal industries primarily throughout the Americas. Mr. Niemi started his career with Inco Technical Services Limited in 1996 working on the Victor Deep project in the Sudbury basin. Following this, Mr. Niemi worked on mining and exploration projects around the world as a consultant with Datamine Canada and subsequently as an independent consultant. Mr. Niemi is a member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario, and holds a B.Sc. Honours degree in Earth Sciences from Laurentian University.

The Company wishes to announce that Mr. C. Fraser Elliott currently Director and Chair of the Audit Committee has been elected Executive Chairman. He will relinquish his position as Chair of the Audit Committee but will remain on the committee while Mr. Mason will assume the role of Chairman of the Audit Committee.
