AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - Jun 25, 2013) - SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, announced today that its suite of IT management products enabled the IT team at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, to scale and manage its ever-expanding infrastructure at less than half the cost of their former Big Four solution. Joel Garnick is a network manager for Grand Canyon University's IT department who, in recent years, has witnessed "explosive" network growth that required more sophisticated management. The university's infrastructure expanded from 50 devices and three racks of servers to approximately 300 devices, 1,200 servers, large virtualization farms and two data centers. With their previous product, Garnick said his IT team spent too much time trying to do what should have been simple activities and searching for buried solutions, and they didn't feel they were getting appropriate value for the cost. They also sought a product that wouldn't require an entire dedicated team to deploy and maintain.
Spurred by new initiatives like online classrooms and robust online services, the university IT team needed comprehensive and sophisticated monitoring and management capabilities that would scale to the expanded infrastructure requirements. Garnick and his team found their solution in SolarWinds, characterizing it as straightforward, flexible and cost effective.
"I had trialed SolarWinds a couple of times and knew that it would meet our needs. I was originally looking at SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM) and SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM), but when we started planning, we decided to add as much functionality as possible, so we added several products," Garnick said. "And it all came in at half the cost just to renew the maintenance with the Big Four vendor. So it was a no-brainer."
Garnick said that interacting with the Big Four solution could be a challenge and that SolarWinds has made life better for the people who interact with the systems on a regular basis. Now, the Grand Canyon University IT team has expanded its environment with unlimited SolarWinds NPM, unlimited SolarWinds SAM, SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager, SolarWinds VoIP & Network Quality Manager, SolarWinds Netflow Traffic Analyzer, SolarWinds Storage Manager, and SolarWinds Web Performance Monitor.
Garnick also praised the cadence of product releases and robustness of the features that SolarWinds offers.
"The core features that you get for the price are pretty unbeatable."
