Grand Canyon University Auditions Offers Scholarships for Dance Majors

Scholarship Incentive Aims to Boost Enrollment and Build Talent

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - March 8, 2011) - In order to build enrollment in its recently launched Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education, Grand Canyon University is offering a $4,000 renewable scholarship to any student enrolling in the program, with the option to audition for an additional annual performance scholarship of up to $2,500 per year.

"This is a terrific way for dance students to pursue their passion academically," said Grand Canyon University Director of Dance Susannah Keita. "The one-on-one guidance and holistic approach to the arts that GCU advocates provides a well-rounded experience for students at every level."

Like other majors within the College of Fine Arts and Production, students who declare dance education as their major will receive a $4,000 scholarship, and are not required to audition for acceptance. However, students may audition additional performance scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500.

During each audition, Keita will lead students through a series of dance combinations to assess dance technique. Students are also asked to bring a one-minute solo piece with music on a CD or mp3 player. Musical accompaniment will not be provided during the auditions. More information is available at http://www.gcu.edu/danceauditions.

GCU's dance program returned to campus in the fall of 2010, buoyed by interest of prospective students, passionate alumni and the University's dedication to reviving its College of Fine Arts and Production, which also offers majors in theatre, theatre production, music and voice. The major dance forms studied at GCU are modern, ballet and jazz. Solo movement material stemming from ballroom, tap and various world dance forms are also welcome.
