Grand Canyon University Executive Named PR Person of the Year Finalist

National Honor Recognizes Communications Achievements in Academic Category

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - November 10, 2010) - Grand Canyon University's Executive Director of Communications and Public Affairs Bill Jenkins has been named one of three finalists for PR News PR Person of the Year in the Academic category, an national honor that recognizes "top talent, innovators and passionate PR professionals."

"I am humbled, I am honored, and I'm eager to rub shoulders with others who are known as the best in their field," Jenkins said.

Jenkins will be feted along with other public relations professionals from around the country at a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, DC Nov. 30.

Jenkins, a resident of northeast Phoenix, has been with Grand Canyon University for the past five years, joining the institution as executive director of institutional advancement. His realm of responsibility rapidly expanded as the University went from non-profit to for-profit status, and ultimately became a publicly traded enterprise in the fall of 2008. During his tenure the awareness of the institution has reached an all-time high, with earned media coverage valued in excess of $20 million over the past five years.

Jenkins obtained his degree at Michigan State University where he was named an Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Communications Arts and Sciences. Prior to joining GCU, he was vice president of communications at FMC Corporation, and vice president of corporate relations at Beatrice Companies.
