Grand Canyon University Master's Degree in Nursing Program Re-Accredited by CCNE

The National Accreditation to Remain Effective Until 2021

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has granted re-accreditation to Grand Canyon University's (GCU) master's degree in nursing program.

The accreditation is effective for 10 years, ending in June 2021. GCU's master's nursing program was first accredited by CCNE in 2006. The University's bachelor's degree in nursing program has been accredited by CCNE since 2001.

"This accreditation reaffirms the high quality of our master's degree in nursing program," said Anne McNamara, Dean of the College of Nursing. "At GCU, we strive to prepare graduates to provide excellent, holistic care while encouraging a passion for achievement and a lifelong curiosity for knowledge. We're so proud to say that we are accomplishing those goals."

The GCU master's degree in nursing program expands upon baccalaureate nursing concepts to include primary care practice knowledge and advanced leadership with a focus on research and quality assurance, spirituality, diversity, critical thinking, caring, and learning.

CCNE is an autonomous national accrediting agency that utilizes a peer review process to evaluate a program's mission, goals, and expected outcomes; to assess the performance of the program in achieving the mission and goals through the most effective use of available resources, programs and administration; and to review how resources are used to assist students in attaining their educational goals.

Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949 and is Arizona's premier private Christian university. GCU is regionally accredited and emphasizes individual attention for both traditional undergraduate students and the working professional in six colleges: the Ken Blanchard College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Nursing, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Fine Arts and Production, and the College of Doctoral Studies. GCU offers traditional campus-based programs, as well as online bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. The University's curriculum fuses academic and clinical rigor with Christian values to prepare its students to be skilled, caring professionals. For more information about GCU, visit
