Grand Opening: Hotel in South Philadelphia at the Navy Yard Celebrates With a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The 172-Room LEED(R) Designed Courtyard by Marriott Property Is First Hotel to Open at Philadelphia Navy Yard

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2014) - Marriott International, Inc.'s David Marriott, international chief operations officer, Eastern Region, hosted Mayor Michael Nutter and other Philadelphia leaders on April 9th for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to mark the official opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard. The new hotel in Philadelphia is the first to open at the 1,200 acre mixed-use urban development, offers 172 rooms, including eight suites, and 1,800 square feet of meeting space. Located at 1001 Intrepid Avenue, the hotel is owned by Ensemble Hotel Partners and managed by Marriott International, Inc.

"The Navy Yard is changing the business landscape of Philadelphia, and Marriott is proud to be a part of its growth," said David Marriott. "Not only is this the first hotel at The Navy Yard, this is the first property in the Select Service & Extended Stay line of Marriott hotels to open in 2014. We are excited to start our new year in Philadelphia."

The five-story Philadelphia South hotel has been thoughtfully planned so guests can stay connected, productive and comfortable while away from home and the office. The hotel features a fitness center and guest laundry, meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 100 people, The Bistro - Eat. Drink. Connect® restaurant and bar, free parking, and the only Starbucks open to the public within two miles. A 24-hour market rounds out the hotel's dining amenities.

"We are thrilled to offer an additional meeting and hotel option for business and leisure travelers to the greater Philadelphia region, as well as dining and meeting space options for our business neighbors," said Derek Beckman, general manager, Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard. "More than 70 percent of the businesses in The Navy Yard are start-ups or are new to the Philadelphia community and we can't be more pleased to be a part of this growing community."

Each room features plush bedding, a functional work space, spacious bathrooms, a separate seating area and complimentary in-room high-speed Internet. The Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard is also the newest Courtyard in the area to feature the Marriott's "Refreshing Business" lobby environment. Along with media pods, Wi-Fi and a variety of seating zones, the redefined space is ideal for everything from pop-up meetings to social gatherings.

Another key component of the Courtyard lobby is the newly enhanced GoBoard® 4.0, which presents local information, maps, weather, and headline news on a 55-inch LCD touch screen. Guests can send directions from the GoBoard® directly to their smart phones, touch the screen for immediate access to detailed flight information for local airports, popular entertainment and local event information, as well as walking directions.

The Courtyard Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard has been designed to LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards; a voluntary rating program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that provides third-party verification of green building.

As part of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Ensemble Hotel Partners donated $5,000 to Valley Youth House.

"Valley Youth House provides prevention and intervention services, counseling, life skills and behavioral health services to abused, neglected, and homeless youth and their families throughout the region. Their programs foster positive growth and enable at risk youth and their families to become healthy, productive, responsible members of our community," said Ed Proenza, chief operating officer, Ensemble Hotel Partners, LLC. "We are happy to present the donation to help support their fantastic work and we are happy to they will be able to join us on Wednesday."
