Grand Reopening of Marche Metro Alain et Valiquette in Lac-Megantic: Government of Canada Funds Economic Recovery of the Town of Lac-Megantic

LAC-MÉGANTIC, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 15, 2014) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Member of Parliament for Mégantic-L'Érable and Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, announces that the company Marché Alain et Valiquette Ltd has been granted financial assistance to reopen the Metro grocery store in Lac-Mégantic.

This support has been awarded in the form of a $500,000 non-repayable financial contribution under the Support for SMEs and Organizations component of the Economic Recovery Initiative for Lac-Mégantic (ERILM) delivered by CED.

• Previously situated in Lac-Mégantic's downtown area, which has been cordoned off since the rail disaster, Marché Metro Alain et Valiquette relocated to the Fatima district in order to resume operation and get its 100 employees back to work as soon as possible.
  
  
• The funding from CED enabled the company to carry out the leasehold improvements necessary to the store's reopening.
  
  
• Since July 2013, the Government of Canada has provided more than $155 million in aid to the community, businesses and organizations of Lac-Mégantic.
