Granite Hill Estates Offers Second Art for Life Exhibit

Exhibits Feature Artists From GHE and the Greater Hallowell Community

HALLOWELL, ME--(Marketwire - May 18, 2011) - Granite Hill Estates (GHE), the Kennebec Valley's premier continuing care retirement community, will offer the next exhibit in its Art for Life program beginning May 25. Art for Life is a series of two-month exhibits from artists who reside at Granite Hill and throughout the extended community of greater Hallowell. During each exhibit, a Meet the Artist reception provides an opportunity to meet and speak with the artists about their lives and their work. Refreshments are served.

"We're very pleased with the number of people who attended the first exhibit in our series," said Kathy Jorgensen, GHE's Executive Director. "Everyone enjoyed the work of Ken Barnard. And many new visitors were taken by the beauty of Granite Hill and all we have to offer here."

The next Meet the Artist reception will be held on Wednesday, May 25, at 4:00 p.m., in the lobby of the Maine Lodge. The featured artist, Phyllis Wicks, was born in Hempstead, Long Island, and attended Hofstra College. Encouraged in her artistic pursuits from her family and friends, she explored pottery, as well as acrylic and oils. But she found watercolor to be her true medium. Phyllis studied briefly under Lina Burley of Boothbay, Maine, and worked with Lina for 10 years, producing a great number of paintings. They shared a special love of the East Coast -- the Maine towns of Southport and Ocean Point in particular -- that is reflected often in Phyllis' work. She was involved with the Maine Art Gallery of Wiscasset and has displayed her work in the Harlow Gallery, the Wiscasset Gallery, the MaineGeneral Medical Center, and several area banks.
