Granite Hill Estates to Welcome Ernie Weiss

Author and Holocaust Survivor to Discuss and Sign His Book, Out of Vienna

HALLOWELL, ME--(Marketwire - Jul 5, 2011) - Granite Hill Estates (GHE), the Kennebec Valley's premiere continuing care retirement community, welcomes author and Holocaust survivor, Ernie Weiss, to its Media Room. Mr. Weiss's book, Out of Vienna chronicles the Weiss family's flight through 13 European countries to escape Nazi persecution. Mr. Weiss wrote the book from personal interviews, exhaustive research, and his own recollections. The event takes place on Friday, July 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., in the Media Room at Granite Hill Estates.

"This is a rare honor for us," said Kathy Jorgensen, Granite Hill's executive director. "Ernie is proof that the human spirit is indomitable. And his writing is as beautiful as it is cautionary. We're very pleased that he's chosen to come visit with us, speak with us, and share his amazing story."

Mr. Weiss was born in Vienna in 1931. When the Nazis invaded Austria in 1938, Ernie and his family fled to Yugoslavia and then to Cuba. They eventually obtained visas and were admitted to the United States in 1946. Settling in Massachusetts, Ernie attended Brookline High School and Boston University, then served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired after a career in sales and marketing. He will discuss his book, read excerpts from it, and sign copies for interested readers. Books will be available for purchase at the event, or you can bring your copy if you've already purchased one.

To get to Granite Hill Estates, take exit 109 from the south or 109B from the north off I-95 (Winthrop). Head west on Route 202. Take a left onto Edison Drive. GHE is on the right.
