Granite Hill Estates to Welcome Photographer, Chuck Hillier

Hobbyist Turned Artist to Appear on September 28, Exhibit Through October

HALLOWELL, ME--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - Granite Hill Estates (GHE), the Kennebec Valley's premiere continuing care retirement community, welcomes Monmouth-based photographer, Chuck Hillier, as part of its ongoing Art for Life series. Chuck will visit the Granite Hill campus for a Meet the Artist session on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at 4:00 p.m., in the Media Room at Granite Hill.

"It's wonderful to have someone from our extended community exhibit his work," said Kathy Jorgensen, Granite Hill's executive director. "Art for Life has been attracting interest from other parts of the region. Chuck extends that interest and gives us our first non-resident exhibitor. We're proud to welcome him to Granite Hill."

Chuck was born in Derry, New Hampshire, in 1952 and was raised in Readfield, Maine. He now lives in Monmouth, with his wife of 34 years, Ginger Jordan-Hillier. They have two grown sons, both of whom live in Maine: Jonathan in North Monmouth and Daniel in Raymond. Chuck took up photography as a hobby in 1997, then grew more interested in it with the advent of digital cameras and the opportunities presented by computer development of photos.

"Many of my photographs include water as a key element," said Chuck. "Ocean surf, or frozen snow and ice, or flowing streams, even locked up in a water tower, it presents something of interest. A photograph, like a painting, should draw you into it. I try to use the mystery of water to help do that."

To get to Granite Hill Estates, take exit 109 from the south or 109B from the north off I-95 (Winthrop). Head west on Route 202. Take a left onto Edison Drive. GHE is on the right.
