Grassroots Enterprise's Kevin McCann to Address Ontario PC Party

McCann to Discuss '' Effort Attention: News Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor WASHINGTON, D.C.--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 26, 2005) - Kevin McCann, Director of Online Development for Grassroots Enterprise, a public affairs firm specializing in high-impact ways to recruit, retain and mobilize stakeholders, will be traveling to Ottawa, Ontario this weekend to address the 2005 Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) Party General Session. McCann will be speaking specifically about his historic "Fair Deal for Newfoundland and Labrador" effort ( ), a grassroots campaign that quickly rose to become one of the most successful online efforts in Canadian political history -- and succeeded in helping spur a multi-billion dollar settlement for the province.

The enormous impact of McCann's grassroots effort was hailed this week by Newfoundland's Premier, Danny Williams:

"Mr. McCann: Let me thank you publicly (through your web site), on behalf of the government and people of Newfoundland and Labrador, for the tremendous work you have done in creating a vehicle through which our province's residents and supporters have been able to campaign for a 'fair deal' on offshore revenue sharing. I also want to thank the thousands of people who have availed of your web site to join the grassroots campaign for fairness. Together, you have been instrumental in helping us to achieve the historic Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord 2005."

Please see for full letter and for details on the Fair Deal campaign.

(Note: This was a completely independent, grassroots campaign, and neither Premier Williams nor the government of Newfoundland and Labrador was involved.)

McCann will be speaking about this effort this Saturday, Feb. 26th, at the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party General Meeting in Ottawa, at approximately 2 p.m. (for details, or to arrange an interview, please call 202-460-6216)

"I am grateful to the PC Party for honoring me with this invitation, and I am grateful to Premier Williams for his kind words," said McCann. "But most of all, I am grateful to the people of my province and my nation for standing up for this fair deal, for taking action on behalf of what is right, and for making history in the process."

About -- Launched in late December, 2004 as a one-man grassroots effort, "A Fair Deal for Newfoundland and Labrador" quickly exploded into one of the most successful online movements in Canadian history. In its first few weeks, the site generated over 50,000 letters from over 25,000 supporters -- nearly 5 percent of the population of the province.

McCann, 31, is a native of St. John's, Newfoundland, and currently lives in Washington, D.C.
