The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced $65,000 in funding for the Orford Music Festival, which will take place from July 1 to August 20, 2016.

This funding, provided through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will enable the Orford Music Festival to offer a variety of shows, mainly classical music concerts, in various municipalities in the Eastern Townships.

Quick Facts

  • The Orford Music Festival, formerly known as the Orford Festival, attracts nearly 20,000 visitors each year.
  • The Festival's programming consists of about 20 professional concerts, around 40 free concerts offered by the students of the Orford Music Academy, and visual arts exhibitions.
  • The 2016 edition of the Festival, which coincides with the 65th anniversary of the Orford Arts Centre (now known as Orford Music), will feature works of three Quebec composers inspired by the writing of Richard Desjardins. The festival will also pay tribute to the great Oliver Jones.

Quotes

"The Orford Music Festival has been able to reinvent itself to carry out its outstanding work of nurturing public appreciation for classical music. This organization enables emerging Canadian musicians to showcase their music while letting the public enjoy the works of the greatest composers in the very heart of the breathtaking Eastern Townships region."

- The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage

"Orford Music, formerly the Orford Arts Centre, is pleased to count Canadian Heritage among its long-standing partners. Once again this year, this financial support will help us achieve our artistic mission. The coming summer season will have a definite focus on accessibility, youth, internationalism and novelty, and nearly two out of three concerts will feature emerging artists! Music lovers will be delighted because there will be something for everyone. I've selected fabulous internationally known musicians, many of whom will be making their first visit to Quebec. Let's celebrate our love of music together as we've always done at Orford. I promise you that this will be a memorable summer!"
