A Great Success for La Fete des Enfants de Montreal! 207 000 People Took Part in the Festivities

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 21, 2006) - With 207 000 visitors, the atmosphere was quite festive this weekend at the Maisonneuve park and in the three Museums nature close to La Fete's site. The Biodome, the Jardin Botanique and the Insectarium were open at no cost during La Fete des enfants de Montreal.

It's under a radious sun that the activities took place Saturday, where La Fete's entertainers and volunteers welcomed a record number of visitors that enjoyed the extended opening hours. Among the novelties of this eight edition, the Oasis des touts petits, the train rides as well as the the space station were pure fun for youngsters and their parents. From opening until closing time, which ended with a colorful parade, families were delighted to be brought together during such a fun and festive event.

Sunday's heavy rain has however forced La Fete to end the activities at 3 p.m., considering that walking around was getting quite difficult. Numerous cheerful visitors still came to La Fete and enjoyed themself until the last minute, under the marquees, for example at the tom-toms and folk dancing workshops. The vagaries of the weather didn't stop the event from attracting families of the great metropolitan region, once again this year, to make wonderful discoveries in a dynamic atmosphere.

A myriad of discoveries

Visitors had plenty of fun while taking part in the 120 cultural and sport activities offered at the Maisonneuve park, dressed up for the occasion as an immense playground of one square kilometer! La Fete's classics were back this year! Youngsters had a blast jumping around in the giant inflatable games, trying out all kinds of sports in the Rond-point des sports and learning about the different professions at the Commission scolaire de Montreal's workshops. Also, thanks to the Societe du patrimoine d'expression du Quebec, more than fifty groups of cultural communities were also on site to share their cultural background through shows and know-how workshops.

Year after year, La Fete des enfants de Montreal continues to offer a golden opportunity to families from the great metropolitain region, Quebec and elsewhere to have a good time without spending a dime, in a atmosphere of discoveries and openess to the world.
