Greater Cleveland Flute Society Announces 2011 Calendar of Events

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - February 3, 2011) - The Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) announces its 2011 Calendar of Events. 

Board member Kelly Wilson will be teaching a Body Mapping course at University of Akron, Guzzetta Hall, on Thursday, Feb. 3 from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. This program is free. Wilson will also give a recital on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. prior to the Body Mapping class.

The GCFS Student Flute Festival will take place on Saturday, March 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 3445 Warrensville Center Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio, 44122. This year's flute festival will feature Jane Berkner as the guest clinician. The event is open to flutists in grades 8-12. Applications for the intermediate flute choir are still being accepted. The masterclass applications and applications for the performing flute choir are now closed. 

The Greater Cleveland Flute Society will wrap the 2010-2011 season with the annual Cleveland Composers Connection Concert. This free concert honors living composers with a connection to the Cleveland area who have written works featuring flute as the primary voice. The composers will introduce and discuss their works prior to their performance at the concert. This event is free and open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at Judson Manor, 1890 E. 107th St., Cleveland, Ohio, 44106. This year's Composers Connection Concert will feature works by Larry Baker, Monica Houghton, David Kechley, Tom Lopez, Jeffery Quick, William F. Rayer, and Brian K. Taylor.

Established in 1997, the Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) provides opportunities for flutists of all backgrounds to support and learn from one another and guest artists. GCFS programs include recitals, masterclasses and the annual Cleveland Composers Connection concert. Its members include students, adults, teachers, amateur and professional flutists and corporate sponsors. For more information about GCFS, visit
