Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" Tops MTV's "TRL"

BURBANK, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 12, 2005 -- Green Day's timely and politically charged video for "Wake Me Up When September Ends," skyrocketed to number one on MTV's "TRL" today, just days after the network aired the clip in its seven-minute entirety. Directed by Samuel Bayer, the video for "Wake Me Up When September Ends," stars Evan Rachel Wood ("Thirteen") and Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliot"). The vignette's beautiful and wrenching images exacerbate the emotional duality of patriotism's consequences.

For the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, Green Day lead the way with the most nominations. Their eight nominations include: Video of the Year, Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, all for the video of their smash "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." That same video also received nods in the Best Direction In A Video, Best Editing In A Video and Best Cinematography In A Video categories. The title song from the album, "American Idiot," nabbed nominations in Best Art Direction and the Viewer's Choice Award. The videos were both directed by Samuel Bayer. Green Day are scheduled to perform at this year's awards on August 28th in Miami, FL.

Green Day's "American Idiot" was released on September 21, 2004 and debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and Number One in several countries around the world. Weeks later the album returned to the Number One chart position in the US and many of the same countries across the globe. "American Idiot" won the Grammy® Award for Best Rock Album in February of this year, and the band has received extensive media attention in both the alternative and mainstream press, gracing the covers of Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Spin, Alternative Press, Entertainment Weekly's Listen To This, Bass Player, Drum and Guitar World. Green Day was touted as Yahoo! Music's Artist of The Month at release time, and the band recorded Sessions@AOL this past fall, which aired extensively on Fuse. In addition, Green Day has had multiple appearances on Fuse's 100% and Daily Download.

The band is currently on tour in North America.
