Green Planet's Healing the Earth Inks Research Study With University of Arizona

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwired - May 3, 2016) - Green Planet Group, Inc. (OTC PINK: GNPG) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Healing the Earth Inc. (HTE), has signed an agreement with the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) for a two year study of the benefits of barley fodder grown in the Company's revolutionary plant growing system when fed to beef cattle. Over the course of a twenty-four month period, the study will analyze the growth rate and health of cattle fed barley fodder produced from Healing the Earth's mechanized growing system as compared to cattle fed alfalfa hay and a third study group fed a corn-based diet. In addition, the study will analyze the healthfulness and nutritional value of beef produced from the three test groups.

Edmond Lonergan, Company founder and CEO noted, "Now and into the future, Planet Earth's ever increasing human population will need more and more high quality nutrition even as agricultural water and land use must be significantly reduced. Our beef cattle study will analyze the nutritional value of the barley fodder produced in the Healing the Earth growing system as well as the quality of the beef produced from the cattle fed our fodder. In addition, we will be confirming the 90+% reduction in water used in the process of growing our fodder and the cost reduction generated by our system as compared to traditional agricultural methods."

Lonergan stated that the study will be initiated in June, with cattle arriving on the Congress, Arizona property by early July. He noted, "This study is introducing our Company to some new and exciting challenges. We will have forty (40) cattle on the property on which we have installed our proof-of-concept growing system. So, suddenly, we will become cattle ranchers on a very small scale. With the great expertise and support of members of the U of A CALS faculty and graduate student, we will be responsible for the care, feeding and health of the cattle, right down to ordering our one-of-a-kind HTE branding iron."

The study will be overseen by Dr. Dan Faulkner and Dr. Samuel Garcia of the U of A CALS. Dr. Faulkner, Anderson Endowed Professor and Extension Beef Specialist, joined the Animal Sciences Department in July 2012. Prior to his University of Arizona appointment Dr. Faulkner was a member of the faculty at the University of Illinois, Department of Animal Sciences as a Professor. His research and extension activities emphasized proper nutrition and management of beef cattle. Dr. Faulkner's research program focuses on the factors that influence cow forage intake, efficiency and longevity under Arizona range conditions. Dr. Garcia comes from a cattle ranching family, who is still currently breeding and raising cattle. In his position as Program Coordinator he oversees all operational aspects of the UA Food Product and Safety Lab. He also directs harvesting, fabrication and processing of meat animals, ratites, buffalo, yaks and poultry. Dr. Faulkner noted, "This technology will produce extremely high quality forage for use in production systems for cattle."

Healing the Earth, Inc. is building a "proof of concept" growing system installation to provide barley fodder for the feeding of cattle. This installation will verify the productivity and nutritional quality of food grown on the Company's groundbreaking growing technology and validate its three primary concepts: Food on Demand, Food at the Point of Consumption and Fast Track Food.

  • This revolutionary growing system produces 100% organic food naturally, with no GMOs (genetically modified organisms) or chemical fertilizers.
  • The system uses 90+% less water than conventional growing methods and plants grow up to 300% faster.
  • GNPG projects that revenues from the HTE subsidiary could exceed $46 million with a gross profit of $19 million within the next four years.
