Green Your iPhone with 3rdWhale Mobile's LBS-Enabled Application

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 6, 2009) - 3rdWhale, a Vancouver-based green technology start-up with offices in Sunnyvale, California, is on the cutting edge of green technology.

Last month, 3rdWhale announced the release of its innovative iPhone application in six cities and only one month later the application is now available in 30 cities across North America. Through the use of the iPhone's built-in Location Based Searching (LBS), consumers now have an easier way to find green businesses while on the go.

The application is live in the iTunes App store, on any web enabled mobile phone and will soon be available on the new Google Android platform. It contains data about green and healthy living businesses and non profits across hundreds of cities including, but not limited to: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington, DC.

"We're very excited about the enormous growth of this iPhone app in just under one month. The response from users has been overwhelming," said 3rdWhale founder and Chief Beluga Officer, Boyd Cohen. "As green consumers, we know how challenging it can be to make sustainable decisions on a daily basis, but we believe that given the choice and easy access to information, most consumers would rather live in a more sustainable manner."

3rdWhale is "Mobilizing the Green Revolution." Aside from building its own apps such as 3rdWhale Mobile, the company is providing mobile solutions to values-aligned businesses and non profits. 3rdWhale provided the mobile component of Greenpeace USA's new tissue campaign, building several apps that allow the consumer to have access to the Greenpeace Tissue Guide while shopping.

"Working with Greenpeace USA has been a great experience," said 3rdWhale's President, Ron Williams. "The added dimension that mobile platforms bring to campaigns of this kind is very significant. Smart phones of all kinds are transforming the mobile experience and will enable businesses to develop highly effective new approaches to their existing marketing mix."

Also known for the Greenest Person on the Planet competition held in 2008, 3rdWhale has quickly evolved into a digital media company focused on the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) market segment, which includes approximately one third of all North Americans.

The competition, designed to highlight sustainability initiatives by everyday people around the world, will be co-sponsored by National Geographic of Canada in 2009.
