GreenBiz Group Announces Gavin Newsom to Kick Off 2011 State of Green Business Forum

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 25, 2011) -  GreenBiz Group today announced that California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will kick off this year's first 2011 State of Green Business Forum, taking place February 2-3. Newsom will share the stage with GreenBiz Group chairman and executive editor, Joel Makower, in an open discussion on how green business initiatives are critical to improving the state's competitiveness and overall economy.

The Forum -- the first of three events to be held on consecutive weeks in San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. -- brings together sustainability executives from some of the world's leading companies, along with other thought leaders and entrepreneurs focusing on the greening of mainstream business. The focus is on key trends and insights in corporate sustainability, and the innovation and competitive advantage it brings to companies of all sizes and sectors.

"I am pleased to kick off the 2011 State of Green Business Forum in San Francisco," said Lieutenant Governor Newsom. "One of my highest priorities is to jump-start California's green economy and create the jobs that our state desperately needs. This issue is of critical importance to California's short- and long-term future, and I look forward to engaging everyone in this discussion."

Produced by Oakland, California-based GreenBiz Group, the Forum signals the release of the State of Green Business 2011, GreenBiz.com's annual assessment of corporate environmental trends. The acclaimed report, available for free on February 1 at www.greenbiz.com, tracks how, and how well company initiatives are impacting environmental challenges like climate change, energy efficiency, water efficiency, e-waste, and other key issues.

"The State of Green Business Forums have a track record of attracting speakers that are the most passionate and engaged in the issues surrounding the green business economy, and this year is no exception," said Makower. "Lieutenant Governor Newsom has a long and enviable record in public office focusing on the link between sustainability and such critical issues as jobs, economic development, public health, and community well-being. As mayor of San Francisco, he took a range of bold measures to establish the city as one of the world's foremost green economy hubs."

Other speakers at the two-day Forum include Don R. Knauss, CEO of Clorox; Mike LaRocco, CEO of Fireman's Fund Insurance; Steve Jurvetson, Managing Director of the venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson; and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Assistant Administrator and Science Advisor Paul Anastas. Also speaking will be sustainability executives from Adobe, Avon, Best Buy, Ernst & Young, Intuit, Johnson Controls, Levi Strauss, Microsoft, SAP, and other companies.
