The American Psychological Association featured an article based on the study of real-world learning by William Cerbin, a professor at the University of Wisconsin. When faced with the problem of students who simply guessed the answers to complex problems in the classroom instead of relying on the theory and facts he was teaching them.

His solution for solving this issue was to create a problem-based approach that gave the students the opportunity to analyze abstract, but probable issues and determine how they would solve them. Instead of moving from topic to topic, the students worked on one problem at a time, using the facts they were given to solve the problem.
